A novel α-pyrone derivative was synthesized.Photophysics and aggregation of the molecule were investigated.The molecule is almost non-emissive in good solvent,but strongly emissive in solid or aggregate state.The aggregate of the molecule shows blue emission and the quantum yield reaches 17%.The emission enhancement is attributed to the restriction of intramolecular rotation in aggregates according to the structure of the molecule and temperature-dependant emission spectra results.
