The error sources of electro-optical distance meters are analyzed and the progress in electro-optical distance metersr laboratory calibration methods and field calibration methods is presented. The laboratory calibration is the future tendency of EDM calibration; hence, the emphases are put in the analysis of the problems in the laboratory calibration methods and the ideas for solving these problems are in detail in the end.
