Based on Calvino＇ s novel If On A Winter＇ s Night A Traveler and supported by Fokkema＇ s Theory of Postmodernism, this paper explains the use of postmodernist narrative codes in the novel in the view of se- mantic fields. The paper attempts to give a detailed analysis of narrative strategies in If On A Winter＇ s Night A Traveler, and thus explore the innovation of novel forms and its significance of literary history. It demonstrates that If On A Winter＇ s Night A Traveler is a typical text in Italo Calvino＇ s innovation of novel forms, and its u- nique narrative approach makes novel forms come up to unprecedented freedom.
