Based on the reported sequences of NA gene of avian influenza virus （AIV） H9N2 subtype, a pair of primers was designed for the amplification of NA gene from a strain of AIV H9N2 subtype isolated from a pheasant （A/Pheasant/Guangdong/GZI/2003（H9N2） by RT-PCR. Sequence analysis indicated that the NA gene was 1458 bp and the open reading frame （ORF） was 1401 bp in length, encoding for 466 amino acids, sharing more than 98% identities with A/Chicken/Guangdong/11/97（H9N2）.
