During the design of a laterally loaded pile, it is essential to study the deflection of the pile top and the maximum bending moment in the pile. A new semi-analytical method has been proposed in the paper for the calculation of the lateral loads on a single pile, which is based on the simplified p -y soil response theory. The paper gives a description of the algorithm for sin- gle piles in clayey soils and compares the predictions achieved by using this algorithm with the calculated results by the m method and the finite difference method. The comparison shows that the distribution of bending moment agrees very well.
