A kind of Magnesium oxychloride crystal salt（SMg（OH）2 · MgCl2 · 8H2O） was synthesized in this paper. Due to its special structure of crystalline water, Magnesium oxychloride crystal salt has good flame-retardance, excellent heat stability, nice physical and chemical properties. Effect of the content of Magnesium oxychloride crystal salt on flame-retardance and heat stability properties of sheet molding compounds was studied in this article. Results showed that when the content of Magnesium oxychloride crystal salt in resin paste was 40%, the LOI of the sheet molding compounds increased to 35.6 and UL-94 reached V-0 grade.
