Different tungsten oxides were prepared from yellow tungsten by hydrogen reduction at the temperature of 660 ℃ for different time. The morphological characteristics of different powders were observed and analyzed. In addition, nano-tungsten and tungsten carbide powders were manufactured using powerful milled WO3 powders as raw materials and compared with similar powders made by ordinary WO3 as precursors. The microstructures of the powders and the rapid sintered samples were characterized. The results show that the morphologies of nano-tungsten and tungsten carbide powders show characteristics inherited from oxide precursors to some extend. The nano-tungsten and tungsten carbide powders prepared by powerful milled WO3 as raw material show better characteristics, such as better dispersion, less agglomeration, better uniformity, etc. The microstructures of ultra-fine rapid WC-Co alloy prepared by powerful milled WO3 powders as precursors are uniform.
