Seedlings of Quercus virginiana were heat-stressed under 35 ℃ and 45 ℃ with different periods. The changes of leaf water content, electrolyte leakage,MDA content and proline content were measured. The results showed that the leaf water content of Quercus virginiana seedlings decreased gradually with extending of stress time; whilst other indexes first increased with stress time then decreased. The electrolyte leakage significantly increased after 12 h stress treatment and it could not drop back during the recovery. While other four indexes basically showed a good recovery to the level of the control group after 72 h recovery growth at 25 ℃.This indicates that Quercus virginiana has a relatively good resistance and adaptability to high temperature stress.
