Two complexes of 1,1′-cyclohexanediacetic acid (H2chdc), [Cd(phen)(chdc)]n (1) and [Cd(phen)(chdc) (H2O)]n (2), have been synthesized through solvothermal reactions of H2chdcc, 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and cadmium nitrate. The crystal structures of two complexes reveal that 1 has a ladder-like double-chain structure, while 2 consists of linear single chains, which are further linked to form double-chains through hydrogen bonding. Although consisted of similar components, 1 and 2 exhibit different intense fluorescence emission in solid state, which may have promising application in photophysical chemistry.
