Sumoylation, an essential factor to modulate proteins, is a very important mechanism of post-transla- tion. SIZ1, a SUMO E3 ligase, plays a key role in the sumoylation in plants. This article summarizes the basic structures and functions of SIZ 1. Its roles in response to some abiotic stresses such as low temperature, high temperature, drought, salt stresses and nutrient imbalance in plants are also analyzed. In the end, the outlook of the remaining problems of SIZ1 in plants is made.
