In this paper we present a detailed case study describing the uncovering of the causes of data quality problems at a health care organization. This company used a hypothesis testing and verification approach. In essence, this approach follows the classical scientific method of observing, generating a hypothesis, and testing and verifying that the hypothesis holds. Overall, the case represents one company＇ s experience. It nevertheless serves as a comprehensive example of how one might address the issues and complexities of achieving high-quality data.
