Many studies have confirmed that high salt intake can cause hypertension. With in-depth study, more and more evidences suggest that high salt intake also cause bone loss leading to osteoporosis and fractures.Na+ plays a very important role in physiology and pathology, and apoptosis, tumor growth and ion transport are related to the intracellular and extracellular sodium. Moreover, the relationship between Na+ and bone also gets more and more attention. This article reviews the sodium salt and its regulatory factors: Na+,K+-ATPase,sodium chlorine co-transporter(NCC),epithelial sodium channel(ENaC),and renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system(RAAS) on bone.
