This paper investigates the work - family coping strategies and their effectiveness among women and men owners of small businesses. The strategies include the role - managing, support - seeking, stress reduction, and cognitive restructuring. Data are collected from a questionnaire done by 262 small business owners in China. The results reveal that the coping strategies have a positive effect on their performance in business. Gender differences influence both their choices of strategies and the effectiveness of handling these strategies.
