A Potential Receptor Influence Function (PRIF) was developed as a probabilistic model for air pollutant transport based on calculation of forward air mass trajectories. Major decay processes including phase distribution, degradation, dry deposition and wet precipitation were incorporated into the model which can be used to project the spatial distribution pattein or the influence of emission from a given source region on a receptor region. With emission inventory available, concentration field and transport fluxes can be quantified, which is useful for investigating source-receptor relationships. The model was applied in Guangdong, China for addressing the spatial distribution and long-range transport of pyrene.
