With its distinctive individuality and pursuit,Liu Xinglong＇s novel creation is mainly marked by his concern with the rural society in his subject matter,his pursuit of＂nobleness＂and＂virtue＂in his creative ideas,and his adherence to realism in his creation method. Nevertheless,such issues as his paranoid lapse into the trap of rural ethics to the partial negation of the urban experience,his stubborn pursuit of＂nobleness＂to the avoidance of sufferings and burdens in real society,and his longing for the enlightenment path of intellectuals to the shortage of solid power of criticism have constituted weak points of Liu＇s literary creation. A survey and indication of such an aspect is sure to be of great enlightenment for Liu Xinglong as well as the entire contemporary literature.
