In this paper,the formulae of qualitative distance reasoning are derived based on the interval operation theory,set theory and the constraint conditions for the qualitative distance.Also,the paper focuses on the investigation on the qualitative distance reasoning for the same direction and the inverse direction.If the interval of qualitative distance monotonically increases,the qualitative distance reasoning is not related with the ratio of the adjacent qualitative distances.According to the absorbing law,the reasoning results are related to the ratio of adjacent qualitative distances.provides some insights for GIS theory.
