The past three decades or so have seen the rapid growth of China’s industry,with its growth rate one of the fastest in the world.As a result,China has evolved into a major industrial power and manufacturer.Its industrial output,the amount of FDI and export volume rank among the highest in the world.Industrial competitiveness has also been greatly enhanced.However,generally speaking,the status of China’s industry in the world market is mainly demonstrated in its quantity,and its competitive edge lies dominantly in the low cost of the manufacturing industry.There still exists a wide gap between China and developed countries in terms of the quality of industrial development,which is characterized by low-level technology,inadequate innovation capability,undesirable economic performance,high resource consumption and heavy environmental pollution.Therefore,China should follow a new type of industrialization,make efforts to develop cyclic economy,enhance its innovation capability,better the quality of economic growth and raise its status in the global division of labour.
