Clustering techniques in wireless sensor networks can use energy efficiently, aggregate data conveniently, and expand network flexibly. As the center of clusters, the cluster heads expend more energy than the cluster members, since they have to collect data from cluster members. So the choice of the cluster heads is pivotal. This paper presents a Clustering Protocol based on Residual Energy(CPRE).It preferentially chooses those nodes with more energy as the cluster heads and sends the data to the base station by means of inter-cluster transmission.Simulation results show that the proposed protocol achieves an obvious improvement on the network lifetime and performs much better than LEACH protocol.
