The status of risk assessment for pesticides on terrestrial non-target arthropods in European Union （EU） was analyzed, the development history of European standard characteristics of non-target arthropod regulatory testing （ESCORT） was expounded, and the evaluation process, including exposure analysis, effect analysis and risk characterization in EU were focused on. Furthermore, the risk assessment situation and future prospects of assessment in EU were analyzed, The evaluation process of EU provide bases criteria for the selection of the indicator species, the value of the end point and trigger value, the uncertainty factor, and the establishment of toxicity test method; in addition, it lay a foundation for development of ecological risk assessment system for China which consistent with our national situation.
