The urban wastewater treatment mainly depends on microorganisms, and during the last years, lots of reseaches about the microorganisms applied in this field were carried out. The research progresses on the denitrifying phosphate bacteria, compound microorganism preparation, photosynthetic bacterial, psychrotrophilic bacteria, microbial flocculation, the molecular biology methods that applied in sewage treatment were presented, and the existing problems as well as the following development were also discussed.
