The dynamic modeling and control problems of horizontal displacement for an unmanned autonomous airship are studied in this paper. Firstly, the dynamic equations are derived by the Newton's second law for horizontal displacement of an airship. Then, a sliding mode variable structure control is designed based on the equivalent control principle. A new reaching law is also designed to ensure that the switching hyperplane parameter c rises up from the minimum, and varies adaptively between two specified hyperplanes with object parameters once the parameter c reaches the maximum. Finally, the simulation result validates the theory.
