The preparation technologies and research status of metal zirconium in China and abroad were expounded,metallothermic reduction（including magnesium reduction and calcium reduction）, hydrogenation dehydrogenation, general molten salt electrolysis and direct electro-deoxidation and so on were introduced. The principle and research progress of these methods were outlined, and the advantages and disadvantages, application status and development trends of the above technologies were analyzed.
