The new compound, diethyl 2-(3-methoxypropyl) succinate, was synthesized in yield of 90% by the hydrogenation of 5 which was obtained by condensation of diethyl maleate with 1-methoxy-3-nitropropane(4). 4 was prepared from 1,3-propanediol by methylolation, bromination and nitrification. The structure was characterized by 1H NMR and HR-MS.
