A large number of studies demonstrated that urine played an important role in the olfactory communication. Blood is the origin of urine, but the research about olfactory communication of blood is infrequent. So the author took female root voles as subject and investigated whether the females could recognize the different odors of blood. The female root voles' behavioral patterns to four kinds of odorants were observed in a behavioral choice maze. The odorants were female root voles' blood, male root voles' blood, Wistar male rats' blood and distilled water control. The results indicate that root vole can recognize blood odor, and discriminate the inter-species blood odor, but can not discriminate the blood odor of different gender.
