An introduction is given to the development of the earth rockfill dam safety monitoring technology, and some advances in safety monitoring ＆ controlling theory for earth rockflll dam are reviewed from the aspects of rationality and numerical analysis of the monitoring data, back analysis of structural characteristics based on the monitoring data, safety decision-making and supporting system, etc. Finally, the trends for the further development of the safety monitoring technology and theory are put forward.
