Claudins, which are tetraspan membrane proteins, are critical structural compo- nents of tight junctions. Claudin-7 is a vital member of the family and it plays an important role in supporting the structure and function of epithelial ceils. In recent years, a variety of studies have shown that claudin-7 is down-expressed in breast cancer, colorectal cancer, and endometrial canc- er, etc. , but is up-regulated in ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, gastric cancer, etc. Otherwise, the abnormal expression of claudin-7 is strongly correlated with the genesis, metastasis, and inva- sion of tumor cells. This article reviews the research advances in the relationship between claudin-7 and cancers.
