Earth pressure balance (EPB) shield excavation performance is a complicated coupling result caused by EPB structure design and practical operation, and its performance evaluation is important for EPB shield's design and pa- rameters setting. The evaluation parameters which influence EPB shield excavation performance were confirmed based on shield excavation parameters and the theory functions of shield thrust and torque were deduced. EPB shield performance valuation functions which included the energy function and efficiency function has been defined based on evaluation parameters and a parameterized evaluation method of EPB shield excavation performance was proposed; The evaluation parameter improvement theory was derived by valuating practical excavation data and the correctness of the valuation result was validated. This evaluation method can estimate EPB shield's excavation performance and provide structure design theory of EPB cutting head and method of parameter setting according to geology and excava- tion parameters.
