Yield characteristics of 7 high-yielding alfalfa varieties and native variety Guanzhong （CK） were evaluated from 2002 to 2006 in Guanzhong Region, Shaanxi province. The results showed that 7 varieties grew well in Guanzhong Region and had higher yield than native variety. Among them, Haygrazer had the highest average yield （27 243 kg/hm^2） and was 65.15% higher than Guanzhong.The hay yields of each alfalfa variety in different years were significantly different （P 〈 0.05） .The highest yield occurred in the third year and the best utilization years were four years.Total height per year had significantly positive correlation with the hay yield （ P 〈 0.01 ）, which can be used to estimate the yield. 7 alfalfa varieties had better regeneration than Guanzhang.
