The template technique, as is widely applied in computer field, is reviewed in this paper, especially its applications in CAD. The review is focused on the common features and the basic fundamental principle and framework for applications, including the general structure of template application, the classification and operations of template, the key steps in implementation and the working principle of template. An application is given in Cooperative Design of CAD supported by network.
