Under the social media environment, archival service is facing new opportunities and challenges. First of all ,this paper introduces the concept of social media and the advantages of the application of so- cial media in archives. The next, it compares the current application of social media in Chinese archives with American. It also summarizes the implications derived from social media in American archives.
