Karyologieal stuidies were carried out in three species of Ardlsia from China. The chromosome numbers 2n= 46, karyotype 2n= 46 = 42m＋2sm＋ 2st of A. crenata and the karyotype 2n= 92= 58m＋24sm＋ 10st of A. japonica were reported here for the first time. The karyotype formula of A. mamillata were 2n=44=40m＋2sm＋2st. The karyotype analysis showed that there were aneuploid variation of chromosome number and polyploidization evolution in Ardisia.
