Paleogeomorphology of the Jiamuhe Formation was reconstructed by using the methods of seismic horizon flatten and impression with 3D seismic, drilling, and well logging data. Based on analysis of relationship between paleogeomorphie features and distribution of hydrocarbon reservoirs, controlling effects of the paleogeomorphology on hydrocarbon reservoirs was summarized. The results of this study indicate the paleogeomorphology of the Jiamuhe Formation in the Jinlong-2 area showing the pattern of "sag-uplift- slope", which not only controlled the sedimentary types and lithology of the Jiamuhe Formation, but also controlled the development and distribution of the high quality reservoirs. The higher position of the paleogeomorphology was prioritized for hydrocarbon accumulation, which was also affected by long period weathering and post tectonic movements. The dual pore type reservoirs with dissolution pores and fractures provided space for oil and gas accumulation, which were the favorable area for oil and gas exploration. Under the guidance of this idea, a major breakthrough of exploration for discovering uncompartmentalized oilfield has been made in the Jinlong-2 area, which has a positive significance for the oil and gas exploration in the northwestern margin ~f the Junggar Basin and the similar blocks.
