Effect of different concentrations of extraneous Ca^2+ on some physiological and biochemical indexes of ‘ Page' tangelo callus was investigated at 3 ℃. The results indicated that the treatment with 5 mmol L^- 1 of extraneous Ca^2+ could significantly reduce membrane injury rate and decrease malondialdehyde (MDA) accumulation, and it could significantly increase the content of soluble protein and enhance the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD). As a result, it strengthened cold resistance of ‘ Page' tangelo callus, although 15 mmol L^-1 Ca^2+ played a negative role. Consequently, the cold hardiness of ‘ Page' tangelo callus was closely related to the concentrations of extraneous Ca^2+. Tab 5, Ref 28
