Progress in field of research work with respect to amino acid - based Gemini surfactants was reviewed. The synthesis, properties and applications of amino acid- based Gemini surfaetants were summarized. Three typical amino - acid based Gemini surfactants, such as cysteine Gemini surfactants, arginine Gemini surfactants and lysine Gemini surfactants were described in detail. Meanwhile, the development of amino acid -based Gemini surfactants in the future was prospected.
