Objective: To explore the influence of schizotypal personality traits and self - report depression mood on executive function in college students. Methods: 4 461 students enrolled in a university in Shanghai as freshmen for autumn semester in 2007 were examined with SPQ. Executive functioning was assessed with the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test and depression mood was assessed with SCI -90. One hundred forty -two students with a high SPQ score ( ≥the top 10% of SPQ score of the whole sample) were compared to 135 students with non- high SPQ scores. Results:The High scorers in SPQ groups displayed significantly more number of categories achieved( Z = 2.916, P = 0. 004 ) , number of right answers ( Z = 2. 980, P = 0.003 ) , conceptual level achieved(Z =2. 310; P =0.021 ), and achieved fewer number and percentage wrong answers ( Z = 3. 060 ; P = 0. 002 ; Z = 3.05 ; P = 0. 002 ), number and percentage of preservative errors than control group ( Z = 3.180 ; P = 0.001 ; Z = 2.950 ; P = 0.003 ). According to depression dimension of SCL - 90, high scorers group and control subjects group were further divided into depression and non - depression subgroup, respectively. In high scorers group, number of wrong answers ( Z = 1. 965 ; P = 0. 049 ) and preservative errors ( Z = 1. 963 ; P = 0.050 ) were significantly better in depression subgroup than in non - depression subgroup . Conclusion:Executive functioning in schizotypal college students is better than non sehizotypal controls, partly due to the depression mood in sehizotypal college students.
