Embedded system and MPEG-4 codec technology got more and more attention between wireless video surveillance systems. On the basis of researching embedded technology and video signal compression technology, system design scheme that based on MPEG-4 network video surveillance system is provided, and hardware environment based on embedded Linux and PXA255 is built, then video signal collection, MPEG-4 compression code and video signal translation with GPRS wireless network function module are designed, GPRS wireless network video surveillance is realized, which make a good foundation for embedded MPEG-4 video surveillance system.
