The relationship between Antarctic mass balance and global warming is one of the most important topics of climate research. However, there are a few records before or in 1960s. Declassified intelligence satellite photography (DISP) images captured in 1960s, therefore, are important for Antarctic mass balance research. In this paper, several image processing methods are applied to improve the DISP images' quality and remove noise. A comprehensive standard for image quality evaluation is summarized at the same time. Based on experiments, we can conclude that histogram equalization is good to improve the DISP images' contrast and increase information. Compared with other denoising methods, median filter is better to remove noise and increase the number of automated matched corresponding points in the enhanced image. Based on above processes, DISP images can be suitable for image matching and ice velocity measurement.
