Starch succinate is an anionic starch, which shows more remarkable physicochemical behavior than starch and will be greatly extended the use of modified starch in industrial applications. This paper reviews the synthesis, analysis, the application of starch succinate. It can be synthesized by reacting starch with succinic anhydride by wet method, solvent method and dry method. Dry method is promising and green chemistry method. The study direction and potential application scopes are also forecasted. The starch succinate can be employed in some aspect instead of polyacrylate products owing to its chemical structure.
