Recent studies show that adipocyte-derived hormone can regulate bone metabolism,implying that bone may exert a feedback regulation on energy homeostasis.Further studies have confirmed that osteocalcin can regulate energy metabolism.The first gene identified by this open-ended search is Esp,which encodes osteotesticular protein tyrosine phosphatase（OST-PTP）.This article reviews the research progresses in osteocalcin regulating energy metabolism,modulation of its biological activity,relation with obesity and type 2 diabetes,and its clinical researches.
