Adopting an approach of architecture phenomenology, this paper intends to make a detailed inquiry into Calvino＇s illusionary cities and his vision of safe and happy cities. Calvino＇s poetics of cities, with a configuration of crystalline structure, manifests itself in the entanglement of external and internal perception, material and spirit, lightness and heaviness, happiness and sorrow, despair and dream. Calvino, with his city illusions, on the one hand, contemplates on the dilemma and danger of urbanization; however, expresses on the other side the dream of seeking for happy cities.
