Yang received the BE degree in engineering physics from Peking University, Beijing, China, in 1987, the MSc degree in biophysics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China, in 1990, the MSc degree in electrical engineering from the University of Houston, Houston, TX in 1996, and the PhD degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada in 1999.
