Protein/peptide drugs have received great attention and recognition, and taken a growing share in drug development. However, intracellular delivery has become an essential issue tbr many protein/peptide drugs that need to enter the cells for achieving pharmacological actions. Cell-penetrating peptides （CPPs） are rich in arginine, which enables them not only to penetrate cell membrane efficiently, but also to carry a variety of macromolecules into cells. Therefore, CPPs have been widely applied in drug delivery, and especially, CPP-based technique is considered as the promising solution to overcome the barriers against effective intracellular protein delivery. This article provided emphatically an overview on recent development in CPP-mediated protein/peptide drug delivery for treatment of various diseases.
