Personality is an everlasting topic in psychological research. Adolescence has been a key period of personality development and many researchers paid attention to it. Previous studies have mostly used variable-centered approach and extensively explored the relationship between specific personality traits and individuals' developmental outcomes. As such research progressed, the person-centered approach gradually showed more advantages because it can synthetically reflect the interaction between personality traits. This study reviewed literatures about personality types and adolescents' development and exlored two aspects. The first is to introduce the developmental characteristics of adolescents' personality types; the second is to introduce the relationship between adolescents' personality types and the key variables of adolescents' development. Block (1971) first put forward three personality types. Drawing on Block's work, Robins et al. (1996) clustered the Big Five into three personality types: resilients, undercontrollers, and overcontrollers. The personality type of resilients was described as of lower neuroticism, higher extraversion and conscientiousness; overcontrollers of lower extraversion and higher neuroticism; undercontrollers of lower agreeableness and conscientiousness. There are three advantages of the typology research on personality. First, the three personality types provide an efficient classification system and taxonomy for personality research. Second, the typology research on personality is a person-centered approach. Finally, personality types, as moderators, help researchers investigate the effect of personality on individuals' behaviors more comprehensively. It is important to understand the stability and diversity of adolescents' personality types. Personality types are relatively stable across gender and age. There are two main developmental trends of personality types during adolescence: undercontrollers transiting to resilients and overcontrollers transi
