In this paper,we calculated new 1200-year temperature series for the North Hemisphere (NH) and China by applying " Composite-Plus-Scale (CPS) " method to the published eight and three multi-proxy temperature reconstructions from the NH and China, respectively.Besides the new 1200-year temperature series for the NH and China, the temperature reconstructions for the Continents of the NH published by the PAGES-2k group were also included in the analysis. And then using these millennium-long temperature series,we assessed a few general characteristics of temperature changes during the past 1200 years over the NH,the Continents and China.Firstly,we investigated the phase relationship of temperature variations at centennial scales in the NH and China during the past 1200 years.Secondly,we assessed the rates of temperature changes for the NH and China at the multi-decadal to centennial scales.Thirdly,we estimated the differences between the 20th warm period and the typical warm intervals (the warmest 100 or 30 years) during the Medieval Warm Period (MWP,800~1250A.D.)in the continents of the NH.Finally,we focused on the time differences of the typical warm intervals during the MWP and typical cold intervals during the Little Ice Age (LIA,1400~1900A.D.) in the different continents of the NH.After above investigations, the main conclusions can be draw as following:(1) Temperature variations are generally in-phase between the NH and China at centennial timescales, and the bandwidth of 150~200 years are common periods for the NH and China temperature series, which is likely a result of solar variability.(2) At 50-year and 100-year timescales, the rates of temperature change in the NH and China are similar, and both show continuous warming trends over the last 150 years.(3) At the continental scale, there were no synchronous typical warm (or cold) intervals during the MWP (or the LIA).(4) The temperature in the past 30 years (1971~ 2000A.D.) is the warmest compared to the a
