采用中国家庭追踪调查数据,以相对收入假说理论为基础,从地位关注的角度,分析了义务教育阶段中国家庭的教育支出行为。研究结果表明,义务教育具有地位商品属性,地位外部性是影响中国家庭教育支出的重要因素。收入不平等的扩大强化了家庭的地位关注动机,并进一步推高了家庭教育支出的整体水平。低收入家庭和农村家庭在教育支出的竞赛中要承受更大的压力、更重的负担。研究还发现,义务教育阶段中国家庭对子女教育的关注,正由学校教育向影子教育拓展。
Using the data from China Family Panel Studies, based on the theory of relative income hypothesis, the paper analyzes the behavior of Chinese household education expenditure in the stage of compulsory education from the perspective of status concern. The results show that compulsory education has the attribute of positional goods and positional externality is an important determinant factor of affecting Chinese household education expenditure. The increase in income inequality has strengthened the motive of status concern and further pushed up the overall level of household education expenditure. Low-income and rural household have borne more stress and burden in the education expenditure competition. Moreover, the research shows that the concern on children's educa- tion of Chinese family is enlarged from school education to shadow education.
