The lichen genus Hypocenomyce M. Choisy is reported as new to Xinjiang, China, with one species, Hypocenomyce scalaris （Ach. ex Liljeblad ） M. Choisy from Xinjiang. The genus is characterized by its squamulose thallus, sorediate underside, a plectenchymatous upper cortex, and algae distributed throughout the thallus. The descriptions of the genus and species including its anatomy, chemistry, and ecology with photographs are presented in this paper.
