Diaphragm of Juglans regia is also called Diaphragma juglandis fructus. It is dry wooden diaphragm of walnut. It is herbal material in traditional Chinese medicine which replenishes kidney essence, treats hiccup and other problems. Modern studies showed that it had antioxidant, antibacterial, kidney essence replenishment and other effects. It contained phenolic acids, flavonoids, glycosides and some other active components. Therefore, diaphragm of J. regia has potential medicinal, research and development value. So far herbal medicine pieces, instant tea and other beverages have been made from the diaphragm of Juglans regia. However, further research need to be done on the components,function,efficacy,dosage,sensory evaluation and other aspects.
