4-hydroxybenzenecarbothioamide was prepared from 4-cyanophenol and thioacetamide using concentrated hydrochloric acid and glacial acetic acid as solvent. The raw product reacted with ethyl-2-chloroacetoacetate in alcohol to get the intermediates of febuxostat,2-（4-hydroxy phenyl）-4-methyl thiazole-5-carboxylate. The improved process avoided the usage of hydrogen sulfide and high pressure equipment,and the reaction was easy to handle.
