Owning to excellent dust removing and reducing the wear of cylinder, air filter paper has been a significant part of automobile engines. In this article was reviewed the background of air filter medium and the necessities of research and application of f lame-retardant filters. The reason of combustion and mechanism of flame retardant was summarized, and the basic characteristic of common thermally resistant fibers, flame retardants and resins were also concluded. In addition, advantages and disadvantages of the several bonding forms between flame retardants and filter paper were concluded and compared, and the future developing trends of manufacturing flame-retardant, environment-friendly filter paper.
