Photovoltaic (PV) inverter is the main part of stand-alone PV generation system, and its performance directly determine the reliability, efficiency and lifetime of the whole system. Therefore, it becomes hotspot which scholars research on. From the aspects of improving reliability, simplifying topology and optimizing control strategy, the difficulties in the research area of stand-alone PV inverters were introduced, and the progresses were reviewed. It provides a guideline for researchers to select possible research orientation in future.
